The farm
This WES50 turbine is located at a calf fattening farm. Calves will arrive at the farm at an age of about 14 days. They stay for about 5 to 6 months. The entrepreneur makes 2 rounds of calf fattening a year.
The company has a high energy consumption. The entrepreneur has already invested in a wood-burning stove. This supplies the heat for 2 houses, the stables, a canteen and a large hall. This company is already gas-free. With the arrival of this farm turbine, they will also generate their own electricity.

Main components
A WES turbine roughly consists of 5 main parts: the foundation, the tower, the nacelle with rotorhead, the blades and the control box.
Below some pictures of these main parts. Let’s start with the foundation.
The tower
The farm turbine in Lichtenvoorde has a shaft height of 25 meters. The 24 meters mast of this windmill consists of 2 parts, which are mounted together on location.
The nacelle and rotorhead
Both the nacelle and the rotorhead are pre-assembled in the WES production hall. On location, at the farm, the nacelle and rotorhead are mounted together. In addition, the electrical components such as the top box are already prepared on the ground for connection to the cable mounted in the mast.
The rotorblades
The blades are made according to the installation profiles and in the molds of WES.
Preparations for mounting the blades to the rotorhead are made on site. Since the WES turbines only have 2 blades, the blades can be mounted to the rotorhead on the ground. The entire nacelle, including rotor and blades, is lifted as one component onto the mast with 1 crane.
The control cabinet
In the control box, everything comes together. The rotating movement of the blades will be accelerated by the gearbox. This rotation, which is mechanical energy, will be translated to electrical energy by the generator. So, a generator is a machine that produces electrical energy from mechanical energy, the opposite of an electric motor which turns electric energy into mechanical motion.
The energy, generated in the generator, will reach the inverters in the control cabinet via the internal cabling in the tower. These inverters ensure that the generated energy has the desired frequency to use at the farm and/or send to the grid.
The control cabinet is the heart of the communication between the weather station on the nacelle, the production of the turbine and our computers. We use the SCADA system to monitor the turbine performance. The customer can also follow the turbine performance on his computer and/or mobile phone.
Only one crane needed
Both the Lagerwey and our WES turbines are 2-bladed. Therefore, they can be installed using only one crane. The rotor hub and blades are pre-mounted on the ground. After which it is lifted and mounted on the nacelle.
