Windpark Zijpe, the Netherlands, was the first commercial windpark in North Holland, the Netherlands. Sinds 1992, the 9 Lagerwey windturbines are producing green electricity.
The last years, three turbine were not producing any more. After 25 years of spinning and producing green electricity, these 3 turbines are at the end of their technical lifespan.
Comming from the north, 6 turbines (1992) are still spinning in the wind. Windturbine number 7 (counting from the north) was the first windturbine that was replaced in november 2019 for a new WES80 windturbine.
The WES turbine on Wind farm Zijpe (located in North-Holland) is realized by community participation project ‘Postalcode Rose Scheme’ (PCR). This ‘Incentive Programme’ makes it possible to replace an old existing wind turbine by a new one, funded by private individuals, companies and foundations in the immediate vicinity (a specific postal ode area).
The participants invest by purchasing a ‘wind share’ for which they receive an exemption on the energy tax on electricity for the next 15 years. This means that for each ‘kWh consumed’ one member will easily safe 50% on their annual energy bill. The Volksmolen cooperative consists of 56 members, the majority of whom are citizens plus a few companies that also decided to participate.
After unloading the transport, the different components will be prepared for lifting.
The tower parts are mounted to each other. After mounting, the internal cabling in the tower is prepared. After the erection, this cables will be mounted to the nacelle/ topbox and to the controll cabinet.
The blades are mounted to the rotorhead on the ground. After mounting, the total nacelle with rotorhead and blades are lifted to the tower en mounted at the tower.
After installing, the electrical parts will be connected to each other.
The new WES wind turbine, was forecasted to have an annual production of 180.000 kWh. Due to a number of very good wind months and a reliable and solid turbine technology, the new WES turbine has produced 215.000 kWh after 1 year.
After 2 years, the Volksmolen has produced 396.000 kWh. And, within 2,5 years, the Volkmolen reached the 500.000 kWh production.
Compared to generating electricity in a non-sustainable power plant, we yearly save more than 72 tons of CO2 with our Volksmolen Zijpe (72,343.59 kg CO2)!
For one entire production year, this is equal to the emissions of approximately 618,321 car kilometers
Per ‘wind share’, this amounts to approximately 103 kilograms of CO2, equal to more than 808 car kilometers with an emission of 117 grams/km (average emission of new cars in 2020).
